My Top Songs Of 2017

So, it's now the end of 2017! It has gone so, so quickly, I don't know how it's already been and gone. I decided that for this blog post I would give you my "top songs of the year" (well, obviously, considering the title...)I have 2 categories; top discoveries that I have made of artists, songs and albums that weren't released this year but maybe have been around for a while. And the second is top new releases. I hope from this blog post you either agree with me or find some new music to listen to!

Top Discoveries:

  • Artist

  • Lucy Spraggan I knew who Lucy Spraggan was before this year, but a couple months ago I went to a few of her shows to help her support act Lauren Ray (who is also awesome by the way). When I watched her show, I was so amazed and fell in love instantly. She has amazing charisma and stage presence & her show was so simple - just her and guitar and a piano. It was so amazing, after the show I downloaded all four of her albums and I'm in love with all of them! If you haven't listend to her since X Factor - I would definitely recommend checking her out.

  • You & Me This is a folk duo made up of Pink and Dallas Green. I don't actually remember how I discovered this duo, but I am so glad I did. Their music is so stripped back and a real difference from Pink's solo music - really showing off her incredible voice. I was already a diehard fan for Pink, but this made me love her (and Dallas) even more. They only released 2 albums and I assume are no longer together, but they are definitely worth a listen.

  • Andra Day Andra Day has one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard and her music is very unique to me, it's got a little bit of jazz, blues, pop...she even did a cover of Eminem which is such a great take on the song (and I may have used it as inspiration for my own cover!)

  • Song

  • Start a war - Klergy

  • Nothing ever happens - Del Amitri

  • Hurt - Johnny Cash

  • Mad world - Gary Jules

  • The scientist - Coldplay

  • What's up - 4 Non Blondes

  • Anymore of this - Mindy Smith & Matthew Perry Jones

  • Killing Me Softly - Fugees

  • Crazy - Patsy Cline

  • Album

  • Amber run - 5AM I already knew and loved Amber Run's song '5AM', but this year I found their album featuring this song & every other song on it is just as amazing.

  • Of Monsters and Men - My Head is an Animal I don't really know what I can say about this album or this band, except it just clicked with me so much & I just love this album.

Top New Releases:

  • Artist:

  • Miley Cyrus I know that Miley isn't a "new release" but she is a new artist & has developed a sound that is very different than her previous one. Personally I love this new music. I find it more grounded, down to earth & actually more her - I'm saying this just from observation though, of course I don't actually know her.

  • Kesha I think she is by far the most incredible artist of this year, because she has come back to the music scene & she has come back strong & her new album is brilliant. I can't wait to see what else she is working on.

  • Song:

  • Sign of the times - Harry Styles

  • Game of Survival - Ruelle

  • Better man - Little Big Town

  • Sorry not sorry - Demi Lovato

  • Liability - Lorde

  • Pretty girl - Maggie Lindemann

  • Album:

  • Halsey - hopeless fountain kingdom I don't know what it is about this album, but I just clicked with every single song. Something I think also this album does really well, is it tells a story which I love. I already loved Halsey but I didn't like all her songs, so it was a great surprise when I loved all of this album. Also, she is just so awesome and I want to be her, so I'm slightly biased.

  • Ed Sheeran - Divide

After his one year off from music, he absolutely came back strong with his third album and it is everything I could have hoped for. I am a huge (and I mean huge) fan of Ed Sheeran so I am so happy with this new album & if you haven't heard it yet, you should definitely check it out!
